PSP Movies Downloads
PSP movies downloads can present a couple of common challenges. In this article I will try to clarify some of the questions related to movies downloads for PSP. Before I get into the technical aspects I want to clarify how to download psp movies. Best place to do it (as of this writing) is Allpspgames.com or PSPblender (unfortunately “good” old PSPblender has been getting a bad reputation in the PSP community lately, mainly because they have a lot of old stuff and bad customer support).
Allpspgames gives clear instructions, provides software, is compatible with all firmware versions, can be used with Windows XP, Vista or Mac and has a big selection of psp movies which is frequently updated.
Now let’s get into the technical stuff (more instructions available on Allpspgames.com). If you have downloaded an AVI or a WMV file you will need to convert it to .MP4 format or go to a portal which offers psp mp4 movies downloads (movies on Allpspgames are in a standard headache free format).
Encoding the files into .MP4 can be done using a free converter such as the PSP Video 9 (you need firmware 2.0 and up to use it). Once you have downloaded the MP4 file (or converted a WMV / AVI file) you will put it into the following folder on your PSP:
MP_ROOT\100ANV01 (file name: MAQ#####.MP4) for MP4 AVC profile
or
MP_ROOT\100MNV01 (file name: M4V#####.MP4) for MP4 SP profile.
##### are replaced with numerals, so please don’t change them to “Rambo.mp4” because PSP won’t recognize the file. If the folders are not there then you will need to create them.
For optimal viewing you should do the following:
Select “New Profile” and give it any name:
In the section “Video Settings”

Bitrate (Constant): 512kbps (good for movies under 2hr)
Bitrate (Constant): 400kbps (good for regular length movies / music videos)

Framerate: 29.97fps (should always be that!)

In the section “Audio Settings”

Bitrate: 48kbps (best for music)
(You can hardly hear changes in audio rates, so don’t worry about it too much)
Bitrate: 32kbps (best for movies)

Channels: Stereo

Volume should be at 130% (If you put it above 190% the sound quality will go down)
